The Ashtanga yoga intermediate series is the second of the Ashtanga yoga series hence often referred to as second series. It is also referred to as nadi shodhana (nerve cleansing). This series follows on to the foundations that have been built in primary series demanding more strength, flexibility, focus and stamina.
The intermediate series is generally taught to students who have a mastered all the postures in primary. However this does mean that those without that ability, due to any number of reason, lack of time, lack of physical ability, age, etc, miss out on a lot of beneficial postures as well as a lot of fun ones too.
The series comprises of quite a number of back bends, some arm balances, legs behind head postures and twists. This may seem daunting but I aim to deliver the postures in a fun and accessible way. I will introduce the full series offering lots of ways to work towards accessing those more challenging postures. It will be hard work but also a lot of fun and hopefully inspiring. There will be lots of opportunity to ask questions, look at alternatives and explore ways to work towards the postures you find the hardest.
This workshop is aimed at those with an established yoga practice, this doesn’t have to be in Ashtanga but some experience of primary series is useful. It isn’t suitable for beginners.
